Why do we work in the communities?
In Southern Honduras, where the mountains meet the sea and the sun shines brightly, local communities face seemingly insurmountable challenges. More than 89% of the population lives in poverty, with 57% facing extreme poverty. The lack of access to basic services, such as healthcare, education, and clean water, hinders the region’s development, leaving its inhabitants without hope for a better future.
In the recent years, climate change and the pandemic have exacerbated these challenges. Agriculture, the main source of livelihood for many families, has become increasingly volatile, with droughts and floods ravaging essential crops. As a result, many young people, in search of better opportunities, are forced to migrate, leaving their homes and dreams behind.
In response to this harsh reality, Bridges of Hope was born in the heart and vision of Jenny Molina, who was driven by her deep love for her homeland and her commitment to transforming lives. What began as small philanthropic acts in 1998, led by her father, Miguel Molina, evolved into a lifelong mission for Jenny. Following the devastation caused by Hurricane Mitch that same year, which destroyed a public hospital, Jenny and her family came together to help rebuild it, providing not only healthcare but also hope to those in need.
Over time, this desire to help a few transformed into a movement that today impacts hundreds of vulnerable families in the rural areas of southern Honduras, through the work of Fundación Agrolíbano, the local partner of Bridges of Hope. The results have been tangible in the fight against poverty and the creation of new opportunities for some of the most vulnerable populations.
Bridges of Hope is much more than a foundation; it is a bridge to a future full of possibilities. In a country where 30% of the rural population lacks access to clean water and 12% of children suffer from chronic malnutrition, the foundation is helping individuals write a new story of their life. It is bringing everyone together and creating a better future for everyone. Each child who gains access to education, each mother who finds support, each family who improves its housing, and each community that faces its challenges with dignity and strength are witnesses to the power of solidarity and collective action.
